spring is near!
If you can believe it, Spring is right around the corner! (queue all of our seasonally affected peeps cheering in unison!)
You know what that means…time for some Spring projects! (queue all of our overwhelmed-by-to-do-list peeps sighing in unison!)
Before you pull out a brown paper bag, just wait. We can at least get you started with the first step: putting together a list.
These are some of the most popular Spring house projects to tackle (inside and outside)…a few smart upkeep tasks mixed with some low to medium ranged budget design updates.
Change the hardware on your cabinets.
This is one of those low budget items that can work wonders for a quick spruce up. Let’s say you just aren’t ready to completely replace your cabinets…or even to paint them (although, that’s another lower budget option for your consideration.) Just head to your nearest hardware store or hop onto their website and see what they have in stock. The effect: a fresh design feel without any exhuastive overhaul.
Paint your front door.
It’s all about that curb appeal, baby. Whether it’s a new pop of color or just a refresh of the shade you’ve already got, it gives the whole house a little “facelift”, if you will.
Update your switchplates.
Coming in hot is this fiscally responsible decor swap that can be done in a hot second, but with a satisfactory result that lasts much longer and adds a little zhuzh (and yes, that most certainly is a real thing.)
Power wash your patio, fencing, walkways.
Talk about satisfaction. There is n.o.t.h.i.n.g. like some stellar before and after powerwash action. That is all. Trust us…or just check out our photo evidence.
Check deck railings and boards and fence posts for rot or cracks.
A task that falls right into the safety and maintenance category—particularly if you live in an area that experiences harsher wintery weather, whether it’s snow or just plain ole cold temps. You would want to check this one off sooner rather than later. Not worth the risk to find out after you invite a group of friends over and someone ends up getting hurt. Seriously.
Add crown molding, board & batten, wainscoting, and/or a picture rail to a space in your house.
This is one of those…less of a necessity, but adds such an elegant (i.e.: bougie) vibe. We love this upgrade in a dining or living room, but there are definitely options in this category that work tastefully elsewhere (e.g. the pictured bedroom where we installed a board & batten wall.) There are a lot of different directions you can take this look and it really just depends on your personal style. Whatever way you take it, rest assured it will add a lovely impression to the room.
Clean out your gutters.
Strictly for maintenance, no design fuss here…however, an absolute essential. Left unchecked, gutters and downspouts with clogs can lead to flooded basements, foundation and/or driveway issues, roof damage, and a host of other concerns. One of those perfect illustrations of foresight being greatly preferred to hindsight.
Paint just ONE room.
We often recommend this to clients who want to paint, but don’t know where to begin: start small…your favorite room…the room you spend the most time in (different for everyone)…a powder room. Wherever you choose, a newly painted room brings the same cheer that Spring does…it’s like a breath of fresh air.
Stain your deck (or playset).
This one serves a dual function—beauty, as well as purpose. In that, your stained deck will last longer. An untreated deck is vulnerable to damage from the sun and elements, mold and rot, insects, and more. If you’ve already had your deck stained in the past, keep in mind the 3-5 year timeframe for stain upkeep. This option is a practical follow up to checking out the safety of your boards and railings.
